This is one of the smallest shelves on the site, with three games under the label, and two of the three are dress-up games as the name promises. The third carries the label while its mechanic is something else entirely. We will say plainly which is which, so you do not tap in expecting the wrong thing.

Two dress-up games you can potter with

Fashion Dress Up and Girl Dress Up let you choose outfits, hairstyles and colours for a character, with no clock and no win-or-lose screen, which makes them the kind you can sit with for a long stretch without anything to lose. The small difference between them is the wardrobe on offer and the character's style; the core play is the same. The one thing to know is that the selection strips run close together on both sides of the character, so on a small screen they are easy to skip a row on.

One game that is really a bubble shooter

Happy Chef Bubble Shooter carries this label, but on opening it we found a bubble shooter set in a kitchen. The balls are swapped for cakes, and there is a cap on how many shots you get. It has you dress up nothing — it has you aim at groups of same-coloured sweets to clear them. If you like that, the blocks shelf has more ball-firing games to choose from.

If you want more dress-up or more games for children

The shelf is small because these are the only straight dress-up games in the catalogue. If you want more colourful games aimed at children, cross to the kids shelf, which is much larger and holds bright matching boards, a colouring game and another dress-up title among them.

Are the two dress-up games very different?

Not very. The core is the same — choose items for a character — and what differs is the wardrobe and the character's look. Like one and you can play the other immediately without relearning anything.

Why is a bubble shooter on the dress-up shelf?

Because the label was attached upstream before we ever opened it. Even though it clearly plays as a ball-firing game, we describe the play as we found it and leave the original tag in place, so it turns up on the dress-up shelf and the blocks shelf at once.

Do the dress-up games work on a small screen?

They work, but budget for it: the selection strips are packed close together, so a finger on a small screen skips rows more easily than a mouse. With a mouse you pick more precisely.
